Normal Pregnancy and What A Five-Year-Old Should Drink Q & A With Medical Director, Susan Besser, M.D.

Is there an easy way to calculate when a pregnant woman is due to deliver?

A normal pregnancy is 40 weeks (approximately). Doctors allow a two week variance on either side and still consider it a normal pregnancy, so actually anywhere from 38 to 42 weeks is considered normal.  Obviously, you can count the weeks from your last period and get an approximate date, but the easiest way is to use a pregnancy calculator.  The easiest way to do that is to do a Google search for a pregnancy calculator and plug in the date of your last period.  It will give you an approximate due date.

What should my 5 year old daughter drink and how much water should I give her a day?

Water is one of the best drinks around and she should drink 4-6 glasses a day.  She also needs milk, about 2 glasses a day (2% is fine, it does not need to be whole milk).  For variety she can have a glass of juice a day too.  I don’t recommend soft drinks, they have no nutritional value and are just empty calories.
